tintboard

Install the Tintboard extension for everyone

Tintboard's colours appear for people who have the Tintboard browser extension. Instead of asking each person to install it, IT can push it to every managed browser with one policy. People don't need to set anything up: the extension reads your team's rules from your Atlassian site the first time they open Jira.

What the extension can access: only your *.atlassian.net pages, with each person's own Jira session. It sends nothing to Tintboard or anyone else, and stores only per-site preferences in the browser.

Browser Extension ID Update URL
Google Chrome CHROME_ID https://clients2.google.com/service/update2/crx
Microsoft Edge EDGE_ID https://edge.microsoft.com/extensionwebstorebase/v1/crx
Firefox {6f1d4c2a-3b7e-4f5a-9c8d-2e1b0a7f6c35} https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/latest/tintboard/latest.xpi

Until Tintboard is on Edge Add-ons, Edge installs it from the Chrome Web Store: in the Edge policies below, use CHROME_ID;https://clients2.google.com/service/update2/crx instead of the Edge entry.

Pick the section for the tool you already use.

Google Workspace (Chrome on managed accounts or devices)

  1. In the Google Admin console, go to Devices → Chrome → Apps & extensions → Users & browsers.
  2. Select the organisational unit that should get Tintboard.
  3. Click + → Add from Chrome Web Store, search for Tintboard, and select it.
  4. Set Installation policy to Force install (or Force install + pin to browser toolbar).
  5. Save. Browsers pick up the change within a few hours, or straight away after a restart.

Microsoft Intune (Edge and Chrome on Windows and macOS)

  1. In the Intune admin center, go to Devices → Configuration → Create → New policy.
  2. Choose your platform, then Settings catalog.
  3. Add the setting:
    • Edge: Microsoft Edge → Extensions → Control which extensions are installed silently.
    • Chrome: Google Chrome → Extensions → Configure the list of force-installed apps and extensions.
  4. Enable it and add one entry: EDGE_ID;https://edge.microsoft.com/extensionwebstorebase/v1/crx for Edge, or CHROME_ID;https://clients2.google.com/service/update2/crx for Chrome.
  5. Assign the policy to your user or device groups.

Group Policy or the Windows registry

With the Chrome or Edge ADMX templates, the policy is Configure the list of force-installed apps and extensions (Chrome) or Control which extensions are installed silently (Edge), with the same entries as above.

Without the templates, the registry values are:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome\ExtensionInstallForcelist]
"1"="CHROME_ID;https://clients2.google.com/service/update2/crx"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge\ExtensionInstallForcelist]
"1"="EDGE_ID;https://edge.microsoft.com/extensionwebstorebase/v1/crx"

If another extension already uses the number 1, take the next free number.

macOS without Intune

Deploy a configuration profile with your MDM (Jamf, Kandji, Mosyle…). For Chrome, the preference domain is com.google.Chrome; for Edge, com.microsoft.Edge:

<key>ExtensionInstallForcelist</key>
<array>
  <string>CHROME_ID;https://clients2.google.com/service/update2/crx</string>
</array>

Firefox

Add Tintboard to Firefox's enterprise policies, either through the Firefox ADMX templates (Extensions → Extension Management) or a policies.json file in Firefox's distribution folder:

{
  "policies": {
    "ExtensionSettings": {
      "{6f1d4c2a-3b7e-4f5a-9c8d-2e1b0a7f6c35}": {
        "installation_mode": "force_installed",
        "install_url": "https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/latest/tintboard/latest.xpi"
      }
    }
  }
}

Extensions installed by policy get their site access automatically, so people don't see the "Allow on Atlassian sites" prompt.

Check that it worked

  1. On a managed computer, open chrome://extensions (Chrome) or edge://extensions (Edge). Tintboard is listed as Installed by your organisation.
  2. Open a Jira board. The Tintboard icon in the toolbar shows no badge when it's active, ? when no rules are saved yet, and ! when the licence has lapsed.
  3. In Jira, go to Settings → Apps → Tintboard. After people have opened Jira, the page shows how many of them used the extension in the last 5 weeks.

Remove it

Delete the entry from the same policy. Browsers uninstall the extension at their next policy refresh. Tintboard leaves nothing on your Jira pages once it's gone.
